In early September, we shot a magazine cover featuring a family who had overcome adversity in their lives. Not only did we need to get an engaging cover shot that left room for plenty of surrounding text, but we had to capture several pictures for the inside feature. In Oklahoma the extremely bright sun, high temperatures and strong winds are some of the greatest challenges when taking pictures out of doors. Our photographer, Chris Lo, spent time tweaking lights and adjusting his camera settings to find the right balance, and the Oklahoma Golf Club served as a great backdrop with its naturally beautiful grounds and surrounding buildings.
The next challenge was working with the family to get the most natural shots possible. We encouraged them to talk about happy memories and upcoming vacations. These conversations made for some great facial expressions and moments between the parents and children. We shot several family activities, including playing board games, golfing and walking on the club grounds.
