Sometimes, I think about those brands that have become completely iconic. The ones where you could show their logo to anyone in any country and they would immediately know the name of the brand.
And I wonder, how much of that company’s great success came from their great logo design. It’s a bit of a “which came first, the chicken or the egg?” question, of course. The answer is that the logo design and the product evolved collectively.
But the great success that the product enjoys today comes from the successful logo design that brought the product to our attention. Logo design, and any design for that matter, can elevate a simple product into a well-known staple. In this article, I want to take you through the six ways great design can elevate your brand and elevate your profits.
1. App Design
How can you elevate your profits with app design? There are a few ways. The most popular way is making purchasing decisions seamlessly integrated into the design of the app. The easier it is for your customer to navigate to the purchasing interface, the more likely it is that they will make the purchase.
2. Poster Design
When it comes to increasing profits through poster design, the most important idea is a hierarchy of importance. You need to create a poster that highlights the most important aspects of your product. As you create this poster, think about the most important thing your client needs to come away with after reading the poster. This thing should be in the largest text, with the brightest colors, and with the highest contrast.
3. Packaging Design
Similarly, as you design your packaging, you should be thinking about the hierarchy of importance. Furthermore, you should think about creating packaging that fits within the design aesthetic of the entire brand. For example, think carefully about the colors you use in your packaging design. Perhaps you want to use the exact same color scheme for all of your packagings. On the other hand, you could decide to use different colors for different products but use the same designs. Either way, it is incredibly important that at one glance, your customer can tell that the packaging is from your company.
Simplicity is key when it comes to creating a profitable packaging design. People are often tempted to cover the packaging with positive reviews of the product, fun quotes, or awards that the product has received. Resist this temptation and let the simple branded packaging speak for itself.
4. Logo Design
As you can tell from my thoughts on packaging and poster design, I really care about brands. I believe that your company’s brand is the main course in the meal of your company’s design decisions. All of your decisions should reflect the logo design, even when it comes to creating products.
Think about Adidas’s iconic three-stripe design. They are able to find creative ways to incorporate the three stripes into their clothing, packaging, and websites. Think about incorporating your logo into products and materials as a fun scavenger hunt for your customers.
5. Website Design
Many business people think that app design and website designs are one and the same. However, these two design projects are actually quite different. When you are designing a website, you have the luxury of space. You can fill that space with art inspired by your logo, quotes, or other images that show your client more about your products. With an app, your goal is to avoid any “empty” space. Apps celebrate function, while websites celebrate beauty.
6. Video Design
More and more companies are finding ways to creatively integrate video into their website, promotional materials, marketing campaigns, and more. These videos are quite different from the other promotional materials your company will use in campaigns because they usually feature real footage, which is harder to manipulate to fit within the design vision of your business.
However, there are creative solutions that you can use to make sure your videos are on-brand with your company’s goals. Start by thinking about your company’s design direction so far. Are there shapes and colors that you have highlighted in this campaign? How can you incorporate those images into your video?
Some pre-planning to make sure you have a background that relates to your company’s design really helps here.
